Difference Between Invisalign and Simpli5
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign invisible braces are the clear alternative to metal braces. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you simply wear over your teeth. Wearing these aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your Bakersfield Smile Design team plans out for you. Invisalign usually takes between six and 12 months. Your treatment experience begins with an initial appointment for a comprehensive orthodontic examination. We will evaluate your smile, bite and facial structure to determine whether Invisalign is a viable treatment option for you or your family member.
How Does It Work?
Impressions of your teeth will be taken and digitized to create a computerized 3-D image of your teeth. We will use this image to plan your tooth movements throughout your treatment timeline. You will be able to see a virtual representation of how your teeth look before, during and after Invisalign treatment. This will give you a representation of what your smile should look like once you have completed treatment.
Based upon your treatment plan, a series of customized aligners will be made. At each appointment- typically about every six weeks, you will be asked to come down to our local Bakersfield Dental office where you will be given a series of three aligners. Each customized aligner will be worn for two weeks before graduating to the next aligner.
What Problems Can Be Treated With Invisalign?
A variety of problems can be treated using Invisalign, including abnormal bite relationships between the upper and lower jaws and teeth. This includes overbites and underbites. Crossbites, crowding, deep bites, open bites and spacing issues also can be corrected with Invisalign treatment. Even gummy smiles often can be corrected with Invisalign, although in severe cases, surgery may be required to correct the condition.
Invisalign is not for everyone, but Dr Krauss can determine if it is right for you. As a Certified Invisalign Provider, Dr Krauss is specially trained and certified to evaluate your problem and develop a customized treatment plan for your best result.
What is Simpli5?
Simpli 5 is a highly effective an cost effective alternative to Invisalign and is perfect for patients who may need only Minor-to-intermediate corrective alignment. Simpli5 uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners to straighten your teeth in less than 6 months! And, no one can tell you are wearing Simpli5 because it’s invisible! Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle.
What is the Difference Between Invisalign and Simpli5?
From a patient’s viewpoint Simpli5 is used in the same way as all other aligners, however they differ in the way they are made and the types of cases they are meant to treat. Simpli5 was introduced in late 2006 and is made by AOA Orthodontic Laboratory. It is a system of five upper teeth and/or five lower teeth aligners. Since each aligner typically moves teeth at the rate of 1/2 mm, a system with only five aligners (Invisalign typically has 20-30 aligners) would only be good for someone with minor crooked front teeth or for someone whose teeth have moved after previous orthodontic treatment.
Simpli5 also differs in the way in which it is made. The Invisalign process includes molds of your teeth, digital x-rays, and photographs. All of this information is used to create a 3-D image of your teeth using state-of-the-art CAD/CAM technology. Then the 20 plus aligners are computer crafted to provide the incremental movement needed to straighten the teeth. With Simpli5, all that is required is a mold of the patient’s teeth. This mold is sent to the AOA Laboratory where a technician makes the aligners directly from the mold including the incremental movements. Because this process involves less high tech equipment than Invisalign, it may be up to 20% less expensive.
