What Causes Discoloration?
We all have different colors of skin and hair, we also have genetic differences in tooth color. Some teeth are naturally more yellow, while others yellow with age. Natural tooth color can be discolored by a number of causes. The surface of our teeth can be stained by tobacco, coffee, tea, berries and other foods as well as by deposits of tartar.
Discoloration of the tooth internally can also result from aging, injuries, excessive fluoride, certain illnesses and taking antibiotic tetracycline during early childhood. Although teeth whitening successfully lightens most discolorations, certain types (like those caused by tetracycline) are more difficult to remove.
Single Tooth Whitening
The following patient complained that her front tooth had turned dark. This sometimes happens when the pulp of a tooth is injured and dies. Typically, the tooth requires root canal therapy. The answer to this patient’s problem was “internal bleaching.” After a few visits the tooth lightened up very nicely. The “after” picture taken immediately after treatment shows the tooth a little lighter than the others. Normally it will “tone down a notch” and blend nicely.
Zoom Teeth Whitening
In-office laser teeth whitening, or bleaching, is the quickest method of whitening teeth. Laser teeth whitening combines the power of the laser with advanced whitening techniques to achieve the whitest teeth in the shortest period of time. The laser light helps the bleaching solution penetrate the enamel.
You spend about two hours in our office and walk out with teeth that are up to 10 shades lighter! It is an amazing technology.
Is Zoom Teeth Whitening Safe?
Yes, extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider teeth whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any teeth whitening product, ZOOM Teeth Whitening is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.
How Long Will the Results Last?
By following some simple post teeth whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily, and occasional touch-ups with ZOOM take-home gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available through our office.
Is There Any Difference Between Zoom and Over the Counter Whiteners?
Yes! Consulting your dental professional is always the first step to whitening your teeth safely. Plus, over-the-counter teeth whitening strips, brush-on gels and toothpastes take weeks or months to whiten your teeth just a few shades. ZOOM is clinically proven to whiten your teeth nine to twelve shades in 45 minutes. Only a dentist can get your teeth this white, this fast.
How Does the Zoom System Work?
The ZOOM light-activated teeth whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The ZOOM teeth whitening light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth.
Are There Any Side Effects With Zoom?
With teeth whitening some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after completion of the teeth whitening treatment.
